U7/U8 Academy FAQs

WHAT IS THE U7 ACADEMY AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT?

This program is designed to build upon the technical skills learned in the Grasshopper program and introduce some of the basic fundamentals to help players learn and understand the game, while maximizing touches on the ball. The main priority is to create a FUN and safe environment for the children to learn the beautiful game of soccer.

WHY DO WE PLAY 4V4 ON THE FIELD?

Research shows that by reducing the number of players on a size appropriate, age to numbers per field, players will more than double their touches on the ball and therefore increase the opportunities to try new skills. With no scores recorded, players can play in a pressure free, fun filled environment.

WHO CAN PLAY AND HOW ARE TEAMS FORMED?

The U7/8 Academy is open to any player born between 08/01/2006 - 07/31/2008 (for 2014 season)

Players can register for the FALL program until May 31st. After this date, they will be placed on a wait list with players being placed where needed on a next player registered basis.

Rosters will contain seven players per team. Players can request one MUTUAL buddy at the time of registration.

WHAT DOES THE TRAINING CONSIST OF?

The program runs for 12 weeks and will consist of two, one hour practices a week led by Dan Chubbock (Girls) and Alex King(Boys). Teams will have volunteer parent coaches, these coaches will run the practices, using the session plans provided to them. Dan and Alex will oversee the sessions, offering advice to players, parents and coaches. The program hopes to educate coaches as well as players and parents.

Teams will train together with the trainer and volunteer coaches twice a week. Over the 12 weeks, the players will learn new skills and finish every session with a small sided scrimmage.

Training will start early August and run for 12 weeks, until late October.

WHERE WILL TRAINING & GAMES TAKE PLACE?

All games and training sessions will be held in Castro Valley. There will be two, one hour training sessions a week and then 2x25 minute games on the weekend for U7 and one 50 minute game (2x25 minute halves) for U8. Most games will take place on Saturdays but there may be the occasional Sunday game. Games will begin in early September.

WHAT IF IT RAINS, WILL TRAINING & GAMES BE CANCELLED?

In the event of bad weather, games and/or training sessions may get cancelled. To help with this, you will be able to contact your coach, check the CVSC website or CVSC weather phone hotline. This will tell you of field closures for the day. If any games or training sessions are cancelled, they will most likely not be rescheduled.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO PLAYERS NEED?

Players will need to purchase a uniform from Soccer Pro in Dublin in the summer. Soccer cleats and shin guards must be worn to games and practices. Shinguards should be worn underneath socks.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO PARTICIPATE?

The cost of the program is a registration fee of $195 ($230 after April 30th). There are no other costs associated with this program. All players will receive a participation trophy at the end of the season. There are no refunds after June 30.
